Green building, like quality, is not a construction service per se but a mindset and set of specialized inputs and construction methods that we employ.
We build EnergyStar certified homes that are highly energy efficient. Our recent homes have consistently received HERS ratings of 50 or better (this means that the home is 50% more efficient than the typical home being built today.) Members of our staff are certified Building Performance Institute Building Analysts.
In 2011 the Timberdale/Bensonwood team won a HBA of Connecticut HOBI Award for "Outstanding Energy-Efficient and Green Custom Home" for a new home in Weston, CT.
Through our affiliate company Green Energy Systems we are able to provide clients with independent alternative energy system design, specification and general contracting. We are experienced in all types of alternative energy system installations, including ground-source heat pumps, solar hot water, solar photovoltaic and bio-fuel heating systems.
Our construction methods employ the latest building science knowledge in building envelope insulation, air sealing and moisture sealing. This assures that our structures are well protected against moisture and potential related mold problems. We adhere to the EPA's Indoor airPLUS standards to assure a healthy living environment.
We work closely with clients and architects to assure that we employ sustainable materials wherever practicable. The Bensonwood panelized building system is a hallmark of sustainable design and efficient materials use, with waste minimized through computer-controlled production processes (see sidebar above.)
We manage all of our projects to have minimal environmental impact, including construction waste management, storm water controls and other site management practices.
