This 3,700 square foot house is located on the east shore of Candlewood Lake in Sherman, CT. The main living area has expansive decks and views of Candlewood Lake and the hills beyond. A major design objective of this whole-house remodel was to make better use of the views and to use materials on the building interior that complemented the natural exterior setting. The house is located on a very steep (30+ degree grade) lot requiring extensive and very challenging site work. Important features of the completed remodel, include:
- A dramatic center core of the house on the main living level with a large timber frame with a cathedral/celestory ceiling that provides a canopy for three major spaces, the Great Room, Dining Room and Entry. The large, graceful timber frame is Eastern white pine and was hand cut using traditional joinery and oak peg connections.
- A Great Room with dramatic views of the Lake with extensive French doors opening to a large deck
- A unique oval Dining Room designed to provide visual interest. The Dining Room has 8 ft. walls with an open ceiling that sits under the canopy of the larger timber frame structure.

- Chef quality appliances, including an AGA cooker stove and quarter-sawn white oak solid wood cabinetry
- Two “his and hers” nook workstation/desk areas located in closets off the Kitchen/Family Room area
- A welcoming Entry with travertine marble floors and a graceful curved wainscot wall drawing the guest into the house
- A field stone deck for a spa tub on lake side of house

Redding Pond House
Winner of the 2006 HOBI Award for the Best Spec House Remodel in the State of Connecticut. Visit the Redding Pond House Portfolio for photos.
An elegant colonial farm house located in Redding totaling 6,000 square feet of new and renovated space. This project began with a very dated “high ranch” house situated on a well located, flat corner lot with a lovely pond. Timberdale conceived of renovating the existing house and adding substantial new space to create a “colonial” style home suitable to the neighborhood and lot. In the process the original ranch house was completely transformed and absorbed into the newly designed farm house. Timberdale was responsible for all interior and exterior architectural design and execution, in addition Timberdale craftsmen completed all interior trim details, including site building the custom fireplaces and cherry pub room. Key features of this house include:
- A large timber framed family room and upper level game room balcony featuring a large stone fireplace and French doors opening up to a patio and pool
- A gourmet kitchen adjacent to the family room with custom cherry cabinets, granite counter tops, farm sink and E-I-K counter
- A formal dining room with elegant raised panel wainscot and a custom built fireplace mantle
- A cherry paneled pub room with cherry cabinetry and cherry coffered ceiling with French doors opening onto a large patio overlooking the pond
- A large master suite with tray ceilings and two fireplaces, including one fireplace in the sitting room. The master closet has custom (site built) cherry built-ins. The master bath has custom cherry cabinetry, elegant natural stone tiling, a large steam shower and ultra air tub
- The formal living areas of the house all have crown moldings and very rich base board and other trims
- Extensive stone patios and hardscapes to take advantage of views over the pond and to enhance the swimming pool area
